Name: Wartburg

Known as the village of Spires, Wartburg boasts two Lutheran, one Roman Catholic and a Christian Revival Church with Methodist, Apostolic, Anglican and Dutch Reformed churches in the outlying districts.

The area was settled in the second half of the eighteenth century by relatives and friends of the German settlers of Hermmansburg. They established a small but tidy trading town and a prosperous farming community. In the new settlements the Lutheran Religion and the German language and culture were nurtured and remain strong today.
