||Hermannsburg School - Church - Museum
Hermannsburg is primarily a wonderful private school for boys and girls, who enjoy good wholesome outdoor activities, coupled with the challenge of a high academic standard and a wide variety of cultural activities. The school was established 151 years ago and has an impeccable track record.
The rich history and beautiful surrroundings at Hermannsburg, make every visitor feel that they have arrived at a very special place. Together with the warm hospitality and the interesting activities it is a must for birdwatchers, history buffs, botanists and those, who just need to be "away from it all".
The beautiful dam on the school property is home to many water fowl and some time spent in the bird hide, on the banks of the dam, may result in some interesting sightings, for those who are into twitching!
The village of Hermannsburg is centered around the school, the church and the museum.
The comfortable Boarding Establishments lend themselves for backpacker - type accommodation to larger or smaller groups, who wish to make use of the school's facilities during the school holidays - these may range from church groups, folk interested in exploring the flora and fauna of the area, family reunions, wedding parties, etc. Guides can be arranged for people who would like to get to know the area a bit better.
The museum's curator tells many an interesting anecdote, as she takes visitors through the well-appointed museum. The museum is housed in one of the oldest buildings in the province, the Mission House was built in 1854. It is now referred to as the Mission House Museum.
Meals and teas are served by prior arrangement.
Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic basket and enjoy the tranquility of our grounds at weekends.
